I'm passionate about science communication

In all of my involvement with science communication - between the courses I took, the conferences I helped host, and the clubs I helped form - I saw a gap where nutrition, fitness, and health professionals were missing. 

We communicate science every single day. In the interactions we have with clients, in questions we get from people we know around the dinner table, in the content we create on social media, we are breaking down our expertise into new ways. 

We've put in the time for our education, but we also bring our own experiences, our own stories, and our own secret sauce to how we teach. This drives connection, and this makes our education more relatable and impactful. 

We are often so close to our expertise that it's hard to break it down for others, and we're left repeating "does that make sense?" while hoping it has the impact we want it to. And while this takes practice, it's worth doing so your audience and clients can understand and use the info you are providing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to finish the course in a certain amount of time?

Nope! This course is self-paced: you can go through the material on your own time or revisit it at any time

What's the time commitment?

In total, you can expect to spend less than 7 hours on all of the course material, between module lectures and implementation. Since I know it's easy to get stuck on making your sci comm perfect, I've provided time estimates for each step so you can practice without overwhelm!

How do office hours work?

There will be 3 1-hr live Zoom calls for office hours, hosted once a month after each course opening. These meetings will be a time for you to ask questions, get clarifications, or learn more about sci comm!

Will I get feedback from you about my science communication?

No. You can ask questions during office hours, but I will not be looking over anyone's content or practice content within this course. There are opportunities for you to self-check yourself through practice submissions at the end of each module, which are based on things I would look for in your sci comm!

Do you offer continuing education credits?

I am in the process of submitting this course to qualify for CEUs for Registered Dietitians, however I cannot offer CEUs for other health professionals at this time (it's both extremely expensive and hard to get approval across the board, but hopefully some day!). While I do not have final approval before this particular launch, if you purchase now you have access to the course and updates as long as it exists and can absolutely apply it to future CEUs!

I'm a nutrition or fitness coach with a certification, am I a science communicator?

Absolutely! The things you learned in your cert are the science of your field, and part of your work with your clients is communicating that science to others too. 

I don't make a lot of social media content, is this course still useful?

Absolutely. Science communication takes many forms - oral, in person, online, through handouts or courses, written, video - and how we break topics down can be adjusted to all of those methods. While we often use the example of social media posts in this course, I offer examples of ways the information can be adapted to other forms of communication!

I'm not a nutrition, fitness, or health professional - can I take this course?

While I'll be talking to and using examples relevant for this population, if you are someone who educates others about their field, you are also communicating your "science" (whatever that looks like) and can find this course useful!

Will this make me a perfect science communicator?

Sci comm takes PRACTICE: this course will introduce you to new foundational methods to help enhance your science communication, but it also takes time and will change as your audience/business/content changes. There's no such thing as perfect sci comm - it's a practice!
